From blocking annoying gaming websites to hiding adult-oriented content, there are several reasons why you might want to learn how to block websites in Chrome.
If you’re a Chromebook user, be aware that this computer uses the Chrome browser. If you already know how to navigate Chrome to block websites, you’re all set.
However, if you’re new to the Chromebook family, or don’t have the tech savvy to translate the last sentence, this guide is for you!
How to Block Websites on Chromebooks?
There are a few different ways to block websites on a Chromebook. The best choice depends on your specific needs, such as what you want to block and how precise you want it to be.
Take a look at the options below to determine which is best for your needs.
First, Block Websites Using “SafeSearch”
Since Google removed “Protected User accounts” a few years ago, the only way you can control and filter out the websites that explode in the media is to use the “Safe Search” mode. Which will then restrict your access to adult material, but doesn’t offer the ability to block certain websites by URL.
But this is quite helpful to limit your family in accessing mass media that has content that is not suitable for its users.
Here’s how to start Safe Search:
1. Open Chrome and go to google.com.
2. Select Settings at the bottom right and then Search Settings.
Check the box next to “Turn On SafeSearch”.
This process will work on web searches using Google by filtering Google web search results for adult or explicit content.
Second, Block Websites Using Chrome Apps
Another very useful way to block websites in Chrome is to use a Chrome extension designed specifically for the task. Currently there are several Chrome extensions that help in blocking websites.
The following are recommended extensions that you can try; Site Blocker, Block Site, JustBlock, Security.
Here’s how to use it:
1. Open the Chrome Web Store. In the left column, click Apps or Extensions.
2. Find the application or extension that you want to add (write one of the extension recommendations above in the search field).
3. When you’ve found the app or extension you want to add, click Add to Chrome.
